This fall, Times of San Diego is thrilled to introduce three dynamic interns who are set to make waves in the world of journalism. Hailing from esteemed journalism programs in Phoenix and San Diego, these talented individuals are eager to contribute their unique voices and perspectives to local news coverage.
Their internships are made possible through a new partnership between Times of San Diego and NEWSWELL, a nonprofit affiliate of Arizona State University. This collaboration aims to enhance the learning experience for budding journalists while enriching local news reporting.
A junior from Visalia in California's Central Valley, Sydney is pursuing a bachelor's degree in journalism. She previously interned at The Sun-Gazette in Tulare County and currently serves as the features editor for her college newspaper while also coaching CrossFit intramurals.
“I’m really excited for this opportunity to grow my skills and passion as a journalist,” Brammer expressed. “Local journalism is essential to maintaining an educated and united democracy, so it’s special to contribute to that in the great city of San Diego.”
Originally from Oregon, Keller is a graduate student specializing in sports journalism. After a successful summer internship at Times of San Diego, he returns eager to build on his experiences. His background includes work at KJZZ Radio and AZPreps365 in Phoenix.
“I’m thrilled to be able to continue working with Times of San Diego,” Brown stated. “I gained a lot of journalistic skills over the summer, and I’m excited for the opportunity to work on more stories in the San Diego area.”
A graduate student from Virginia, Eshaan is focused on investigative reporting. Their previous internships include stints at the Arizona Republic and the Howard Center for Investigative Journalism. Recently, they completed a significant project titled “Fractured,” which explored the state of American democracy during the current election cycle.
“I am really excited to join the team at Times of San Diego,” Sarup said. “I hope to further hone my journalistic skills and contribute to the amazing local reporting done by Times of San Diego.”
Times of San Diego is committed to fostering the next generation of journalists by offering a variety of internship opportunities each semester for students in California and Arizona. This initiative not only supports aspiring journalists but also enhances the quality of local news reporting.
