(FOX40.COM) - - Modesto City Schools has actually become one of the first school districts in
California to convert half of its bus fleet to electric automobiles.
" The completion of our fleet of electric buses is just among lots of steps we are taking
towards environmental sustainability at Modesto City Schools," stated Dr. Sara Noguchi,
Superintendent of Modesto City Schools. "This task talks to the impact that any
district can pick to have-- by dedicating to environmental sustainability and
prioritizing dollars and effort towards that goal."
Modesto City School is set up to get its 30th electric bus this month. According to a recent news release, changing 30 diesel-powered and contaminating school buses in Modesto with zero-emission vehicles reduces damaging carbon emissions in the Central Valley by 367.5 metric loads each year, which is the equivalent of taking 81 gas powered automobiles off the road for an
whole year.
" We are proud to contribute to cleaner air and commemorate this significant turning point-- an
industry first-- with Modesto City Schools and all our valued consumers throughout North
America," said Britton Smith, president at Blue Bird Corporation. "The need for clean
and sustainable school bus transportation remains high. For That Reason, Blue Bird continues
to substantially expand its electric school bus production."
