On the afternoon of August 14, 2024, a somber scene unfolded along the Santa Ana River Trail, as a 51-year-old man was discovered deceased in the dirt landscaped area near 2100 W. 17th Street. The Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) was alerted to this unsettling finding by the Orange County Fire Authority at approximately 4:38 p.m.
Given the circumstances surrounding the man's death, local authorities swiftly classified the case as suspicious. Initial investigations commenced with the collaboration of the Orange County Coroner’s Office, who would play a crucial role in determining the events that led to this tragic incident.
Upon examination, officials noted that the decedent, later identified as Raul Beltran of Santa Ana, exhibited visible injuries that appeared to be consistent with blunt force trauma. This raised concerns that the injuries might be linked to a potential traffic collision.
