Nebraska inmate founded guilty of sexual attack passes away in prison custody

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN)-- Prison officials are reporting the death of an inmate at a Nebraska jail.

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services say Johnny Hernandez, 75, died Friday.

Hernandez died at the Reception and Treatment Center where he was being put behind bars.

Prison officials say Hernandez was being treated for a medical condition leading up to his death.

On August 20, 1999, Hernandez was sentenced to 25 to 50 years for first-degree sexual assault charges out of Madison County.

A grand jury will be summoned to carry out an investigation in accordance with state law.
