The New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) responded to multiple structure fires late Monday night in the 9th Ward and New Orleans East, with crews working tirelessly to contain the flames. Thick smoke billowed into the night sky as emergency vehicles flooded the scenes, their sirens cutting through the humid Louisiana air.
Witnesses reported seeing firefighters dousing the flames with high-pressure hoses while police officers redirected traffic away from the affected areas. At least one resident was treated for minor smoke inhalation, though no major injuries have been reported.
Local residents expressed frustration over what they describe as a recurring issue of abandoned structures contributing to fire hazards. "This keeps happening," said one longtime 9th Ward resident. "We need these vacant buildings secured before someone gets seriously hurt."
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the fires are connected, but arson has not been ruled out in either case. Fire marshals are expected to conduct a thorough investigation in the coming days.
