North Carolina legislators appeal judge's choice blocking abortion-pill constraints

GREENSBORO, N.C.-- North Carolina Republican legal leaders are appealing portions of a federal judge's order this month that blocked numerous state laws that restrict how abortion pills can be given. Senate leader Phil Berger and House Speaker Tim Moore filed a notice Thursday to look for a review by the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. U.S. District Judge Catherine Eagles declared the arrangements were preempted by federal law and they could not implement them. They consist of requirements that just doctors can supply the drugs to clients and that patients should receive them face to face. The drug mifepristone is used to end pregnancy in combination with a 2nd drug.
