A tragic accident on Highway 51 in Sacramento claimed the life of a pedestrian after they were struck by two separate vehicles late Sunday night. The incident has sparked renewed concerns over pedestrian safety along one of California’s busiest corridors.
According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), the victim was hit by a Mazda and then an Audi while attempting to cross the highway near the Florin Road exit. Emergency responders pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene. The drivers of both vehicles remained and cooperated with authorities.
This marks the third pedestrian fatality on Sacramento highways this month, raising urgent questions about infrastructure safety. Highway 51 lacks dedicated crosswalks in the area, forcing pedestrians to navigate multiple lanes of high-speed traffic.
CHP officials confirmed they’re reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses while toxicology reports are pending. No charges have been filed against either driver at this time.
