A bald eagle was found shot to death in Oakland County, Michigan, sparking outrage and a renewed push for justice. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is now offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible. The majestic bird, a national symbol of the U.S., was discovered in Addison Township, near Lake Orion.
Bald eagles are protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Killing one is a felony, punishable by fines up to $250,000 and imprisonment for up to two years. Despite being removed from the endangered species list in 2007, they remain under strict legal protection.
Local residents and conservationists are urging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously to the USFWS via their hotline 1-844-397-8477. The reward underscores the seriousness of the crime and the commitment to holding the perpetrator accountable.
