Rose Hill schools have made a monumental leap in emergency preparedness by installing automated external defibrillators (AEDs) across every campus. This initiative places the district at the forefront of student safety, ensuring rapid response to cardiac emergencies.
"When seconds count, having immediate access to AEDs can mean the difference between life and death," explained Superintendent Mark Reynolds. "We're not just protecting students—we're safeguarding our entire school community."
The $85,000 initiative was funded through a combination of district resources and community donations, including a significant contribution from Rose Hill Memorial Hospital.
While Kansas only requires AEDs in high schools, Rose Hill chose to equip all buildings—from elementary to high school. Health Director Lisa Chen calls this "the gold standard in proactive care."
Similar programs in Ohio and Texas schools have demonstrated 92% survival rates for cardiac incidents on campus, compared to the national average of 45% for off-campus events.
