A recent poll of likely Nevada voters reveals that Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) is currently leading her Republican opponent, Sam Brown, by a significant margin. Rosen received 51.7% of support in the poll, while Brown garnered 39.7% of the votes. Another 2.8% of respondents expressed their support for other candidates, and 5.8% stated they would not support any of the candidates.
Despite Brown announcing his bid for Senate, Rosen has consistently maintained a lead. The poll, conducted by Republican political strategist Woodrow Johnston and Decipher Ai’s David Wolfson, a pollster and Columbia University lecturer, is considered one of the most favorable polls for Rosen in this election cycle.
The survey sampled 991 likely Nevada voters from August 3-5 through SMS and text-to-web methods, with a statewide margin of error of 3 percentage points.
The same poll also shows Vice President Kamala Harris closing the gap with former President Donald Trump in Nevada, leading by 6 percentage points. Johnston and Wolfson, who have consulted for Republicans but did not receive a commission, shared this data.
Johnston stated to The Nevada Independent that he did not anticipate Rosen's lead to be as wide as it is, attributing it partly to significant spending differences and Trump's decreasing popularity.
He mentioned, "When President Trump was leading in the polls, Capt. Brown was still consistently behind. Now that President Trump has dropped, it appears Capt. Brown has dropped even lower. There appears to be a correlation at least."
Johnston added that Brown and Trump still have time to recover lost ground, as many voters finalize their decisions after Labor Day.
He also noted, "Most of the media attention has been on Vice President Harris ever since the switch was announced. President Trump appears to perform best under pressure; with the sentencing coming up on September 18, I expect his numbers to bounce back up."
