(FOX40.COM) –– Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg talked about the 2nd part of a three-part State of the City address on Thursday. The focus was regional art.
" One of the important things that I've truly tried to focus on and lead throughout my time as mayor- is to develop an imaginative economy," Steinberg told FOX40. "Art, and every type of art, whether it's music or theater – – whether it's the visual arts, Sacramento has numerous young artists and young artists."
Steinburg stated Sacramento has had fantastic festivals and a lot of weekend concerts in the park, but there's still something missing out on.
" What's missing out on is the ability of an emerging artist to be able to find a location to play throughout the week and on the weekends," Steinberg stated.

He spoke about all of the vacant areas in
Sacramento and how they can be used for live music on a Monday night in
Sacramento. He stated it's an opportunity for musicians to get more gigs and they wouldn't have to pay to utilize the space. In fact, he said artists need to be the ones getting paid.
" To be able to truly do this to scale we've got to change some of our permit laws and policies since it's too complex, it's taking too long, it's too pricey, and it is based upon an old design," Steinberg said.
