BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – – A costs that would raise Louisiana's base pay to $14 per hour by 2028 was authorized by a Louisiana State Senate Committee.
The Labor & & Industrial Relations Committee approved SB149 from State Senator Gary Carter on a 3-2 vote.

SB149 proposes raising the minimum wage to $10 an hour starting January 1, 2024, $12 an hour beginning January 1, 2026, and $14 an hour starting January 1, 2028.
The expense is part of Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards' legal bundle.
In thanking the committee for advancing the bill, Edwards said it's time for the state's base pay to increase.
" It is unethical and awkward that our base pay is still the federal minimum of $7.25 an hour in 2023. I prompt the complete Senate to pass this bill" stated Edwards.
A buddy expense in the Louisiana House failed to make it out of committee.
The National Federation of Independent Business called SB149 an ill-conceived, damaging, and unneeded expense.
" Small organization owners already are paying well above the federal base pay of $7.25 an hour to draw in and keep the very best candidates. Developing a state minimum wage of $10 an hour would put pressure on employers to pay per hour employees a lot more. Employers will be required to make tough choices in order to stabilize greater incomes with rising expenses if that occurs.
