Shelia Jackson Lee wins Democratic primary for her U.S. House seat



HOUSTON (BNN) -- Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee warded off a powerful difficulty from previous Houston City Councilmember Amanda Edwards for the 18th Congressional District.

In the Democratic primary for the Congressional seat, Jackson Lee got 22,715 choose 60% of the total vote. Edwards got 14,024 choose 37%, while Robert Slater received 975 elect 2.6%.

This establishes Jackson Lee for her 16th term in Congress in the heavily-Democratic area after announcing reelection to the seat weeks following her loss to John Whitmire for mayor of Houston.

She will next deal with Lana Centonze, who won the Republican main in a close win over Aaron Ray Hermes. Centonze got 53.4% of the vote, while Hermes got 46.6%.
