( The Hill) - - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced that Sunday set an agency-wide record for the busiest flight day ever.
More than 2.9 million people were evaluated at airports throughout the United States on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, the TSA said on X, formerly Twitter, marking "the busiest day ever for air travel."
The TSA likewise advised clients to come to airports early amidst the high demand for air travel throughout the holiday season.
Previously this month, the TSA anticipated the holiday might break records for air travel throughout the country. When the agency forecasted 2.9 million individuals would pass through security checkpoints that day, Sunday's numbers were in line with TSA's preliminary estimates from earlier this month.
The number of airline passengers on Sunday broke the record from June 30-- when almost 2.9 million individuals were screened at airports across the nation. Transport Secretary Pete Buttigieg said earlier this month that 2023 had seen the lowest rate of flight cancellations in the past 5 years, indicating optimism as the U.S. approached the vacation season.
