Suspected DUI driver injures two CHP officers in crash on 215 Freeway in San Bernardino

Two California Highway Patrol officers were injured early Sunday, April 23, when a suspected DUI driver collided into their patrol car while they investigated a separate collision along the 215 Highway in San Bernardino, authorities stated.

Around 4:20 a.m., the two officers were examining the crash on the freeway, south of University Parkway, according to CHP. The two were sitting in their patrol car with the emergency lights switched on, parked in a lane closure along the highway, when another vehicle heading north drifted into the closure and struck the patrol car.

The officers were required to a medical facility for non-life threatening injuries, according to the CHP.

The driver, a homeowner of Los Angeles, was detained on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
