UC Riverside's yearly Tomás Rivera Conference will start Tuesday, May 2, on campus.
The conference, which began in 1988, is staged each year to honor Rivera, who was a previous UCR chancellor and the UC system's first minority chancellor. He led UCR from 1979 until his death in 1984.
This year's event will consist of readings and panels with authors and poets.
Alex Espinoza, associate teacher of creative writing and Tomás Rivera Endowed Chair, said he's delighted about the lineup, which includes "some of the freshest and most innovative voices in Latinx literature."
Occasions are scheduled for Tuesday, May 2; Wednesday, May 3; Thursday, May 4; and Tuesday, May 9. The conference, which is totally free and open to the public, will be kept in UCR's Interdisciplinary Building.
