A powerful storm swept through Pilot Grove, Missouri, leaving residents stunned as high winds and heavy rain caused significant damage overnight. Eyewitnesses report downed trees, damaged roofs, and power outages affecting multiple neighborhoods.
"It sounded like a freight train coming through," said longtime resident Martha Wilkins, whose backyard shed was completely destroyed. "We heard this incredible roaring noise, and then bang – our power went out and trees started coming down."
Local fire departments responded to numerous calls for assistance, with firefighters cutting through debris to reach affected areas. The Cooper County Emergency Management Agency has begun assessing the damage, though officials stress it's too early to determine if the storm met tornado criteria.
