The accident occurred near the intersection of Warner Avenue and Yale Street, not far from the Yale Navigation Center, a local homeless shelter.

On that fateful Thursday morning, around 5:42 a.m., the Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) received an urgent call regarding a traffic collision involving a pedestrian. Officers quickly responded to the scene, where they found a man lying in the roadway with severe head injuries.

Emergency Response

The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) promptly arrived and transported the victim to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries the following day, on September 27, 2024.

Investigation Findings

Preliminary investigations suggest that the man, identified as Mario Rodriguez from Fountain Valley, was walking eastbound on the north side of Warner Avenue, attempting to cross Yale Street. During this time, a vehicle traveling east on Warner Avenue made a turn north onto Yale Street and struck him.
