A mobile home fire in Calabasas that initially appeared accidental has taken a dark turn, with officials now investigating it as a homicide. The blaze broke out early Tuesday morning, claiming one life and sending shockwaves through the tight-knit community.
Firefighters arrived to find the mobile home fully engulfed in flames. After extinguishing the fire, they discovered a body inside, prompting an immediate shift in the investigation. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has not released the victim's identity but confirmed the death is being treated as a homicide.
"There were clear indicators this wasn't a routine structure fire," said Sheriff's spokesperson Lt. Maria Gonzalez. "Evidence at the scene suggests foul play may have been involved."
Neighbors described the area as typically peaceful, with many residents being long-term occupants of the mobile home park. Several reported hearing loud noises prior to spotting flames but assumed it was a vehicle backfiring.
"This is the kind of place where everyone knows each other," said neighbor Richard Cho, 58. "To think something violent happened here... it's terrifying."
