Two dead, infant injured after wrong-way driver in Tracy causes fatal crash

(FOX40.COM) - - 2 people are dead and two others have major injuries after an 18-year-old guy drove on the wrong side of a highway and crashed into their lorry, according to the California Highway Patrol in Tracy.

On Saturday around 2:04 a.m. a Honda Accord took a trip in the wrong direction, eastbound, on Interstate 580 westbound, west of Corral Hollow Road. At the exact same time, a Kia Telluride was taking a trip westbound in the very same lane when the 2 automobiles crashed head-on, according to authorities. The effect caused both vehicles to reverse.

CHP reported that the chauffeur of the wrong-way vehicle was an 18-year-old Antioch man who was ejected from his car and into the center average. He was noticable dead on the scene. The chauffeur of the Kia was a 32-year-old Fort Bragg lady who was transported to the San Joaquin General Hospital where she later died.

The Kia had three other travelers. Two of the passengers, a 35-year-old lady and 2-month-old infant, were and sustained significant injuries required to the hospital. A 4-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries, according to CHP.

Authorities state that all lanes of I-580 westbound were closed and traffic was diverted onto Corral Hollow Road for almost four hours during an investigation after the crash. If alcohol and/or drugs contributed to the cause of this crash, it is unidentified. The identity of the deceased will be launched by the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner's Office pending near relative notice.

Tracy CHP motivated witnesses of the collision to call the location office at (209) 319-4300.
