Breaking Now News: Waymo is now offering paid rides in their self-driving taxis to Daly City and Colma. However, there are restrictions on where these cars can operate.
According to Bay Area News Group, Waymo recently allowed anyone to hail a ride in San Francisco, and they have now expanded their service to include Colma, Daly City, and Broadmoor. This expansion marks another milestone for the controversial self-driving car company.
While Waymo's self-driving cars can navigate normal city streets, they are not permitted to drive on highways such as US 101 or I-280. Additionally, they are not authorized to drive passengers to the San Francisco International Airport.
Waymo's latest expansion covers approximately ten square miles in the Peninsula area. The company stated in a blog post, "Starting today, we’re bringing Waymo One to the San Francisco Peninsula for the first time, adding Daly City, Broadmoor, and Colma to our existing, round-the-clock public ride-hailing service."
These rides can be accessed through the Waymo One app. However, not everyone in the Peninsula is supportive of these self-driving taxis, as they are regulated solely by state and federal agencies.
Despite the concerns, Waymo plans to expand their service in the Los Angeles area to include Marina del Rey, Mar Vista, Playa Vista, Hollywood, Chinatown, and Westwood.
