ASCENSION PARISH, LA – A shocking case of alleged arson has led to the arrest of a New Orleans woman, accused of intentionally setting fire to a residence while someone was still inside. The suspect now faces serious charges, including attempted murder.
According to authorities, the incident occurred in Ascension Parish, where witnesses reported seeing flames engulfing a home in the early hours. Firefighters arrived to find the structure heavily damaged, with one occupant narrowly escaping injury. Investigators quickly determined the fire was not accidental.
Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office released a statement confirming the arrest, warning that such reckless endangerment would be met with severe legal consequences. "Setting fire to an occupied home is not just property crime—it’s an act that could have cost lives," said Chief Deputy Steven Smith.
Fire officials emphasized the dangers of arson-related crimes, which can spiral out of control rapidly. "This was not just a threat to the intended victim, but to the entire neighborhood," said Fire Marshal David Landry.
Neighbors expressed shock, describing the area as typically quiet. "I woke up to sirens and smoke—it’s terrifying to think someone would do this on purpose," said resident Maria Cortez.
Legal experts suggest that if convicted, Johnson could face decades in prison given the severity of the charges.
