REDLANDS-- There are any number of ways high school volley ball coaches can find players.
One way is to discover young players who play club volleyball or recreational volley ball. Other methods consist of seeing trainees who reveal athleticism throughout PE classes or lunchtime games, or simply just trying to find high trainees.
Woodcrest Christian's Laird Musich found an easier way: a trainee who had two parents dip into the school.
Sophomore Micah Pool recorded the last kill as Woodcrest Christian defeated Arrowhead Christian Academy 25-20, 25-20, 22-25, 25-20 to protect the Ambassador League champion in unbeaten fashion.
Pool's moms and dads, Andrew and Gwen, are Woodcrest Christian graduates who played volleyball at the school, and his dad dipped into California Baptist University.
Arrowhead Christian (14-7, 6-2 in league) ended up second in the Ambassador League standings.
Swimming pool was the most popular gamer for Woodcrest Christian (17-1, 8-0), however Musich insists he has other players who are also important to the group. Setter Micah Callahan disperses scoring opportunities to Pool and the other Royals. Freshman Kai Higa has a range of skills. Troy Haun and Logan Frakes are likewise front-line gamers who are scoring threats.
The 6-foot-2 Pool can likewise transform chip shots near the web and hit solid shots from being the 10-foot line.
" You can't go to him all the time due to the fact that defenses would cover him," stated Musich, who has coached at Woodcrest Christian for 22 years.
Going to Pool whenever would produce impressive video highlights, but would break the team spirit Musich thinks in.
" Callahan is integral to what we are doing and spreads the offense around," Musich said.
Arrowhead Christian had the ability to counter Pool with gamers Braden Distelberg and Joshua DeJong. The duo managed to obstruct a few of Pool's attempted eliminates, but Pool had the better of things throughout the match.
There is no tested reality to any stories that the older Pools put a beach ball in his crib when he was born. He started playing in third grade and plays club beach ball for Forza 1.
" Volleyball is a household sport in our family," stated Pool, whose favorite topic is mathematics. "I believe I have actually enhanced by working on the psychological video game. It's been a fun season playing with my pals."
Woodcrest Christian has just been playing in the spring because the 2016 season. The team previously played in the fall, completing against other schools without tackle football programs. The Royals went to the CIF Southern Section semifinals in 2017, and Musich stated he is looking forward to postseason play in Division 5 this year.
"We just want to play hard, have fun, and reach we can," Musich said.
