Anaheim, California

Anaheim is a city in northern Orange County, California, and is a component of the Greater Los Angeles Area (/aenham/ AN-hyme). The city was the most populous in Orange County, the 10th most populous in California, and the 56th most populous city in the US as of the 2020 United States Census, which recorded a population of 346,824. The Disneyland Resort, the Anaheim Convention Center, and two important sports teams—the Los Angeles Angels baseball team and the Anaheim Ducks ice hockey team—are all located in Anaheim, the second-largest city in Orange County in terms of geographical size.

On March 18, 1876, Anaheim became the second city in Los Angeles County after being established in 1857 by fifty German families. Orange County was separated from Los Angeles County in 1889. Up before the opening of Disneyland on July 17, 1955, Anaheim was primarily an agricultural community. As a result, a number of hotels and motels were built nearby, and residential areas in Anaheim soon followed. Additionally, the city grew into a major industrial hub, producing electronics, aircraft components, and canned fruit. It is a charter city, Anaheim.

The city limits of Anaheim cover a wide variety of neighborhoods and span nearly the entire width of Orange County, from Cypress in the west, twenty miles east to the border with Riverside County. Mid-century tract homes are prevalent throughout the west. The largest of the three mixed-use historic districts in downtown Anaheim is the Anaheim Colony. The Anaheim-Santa Ana edge city, which extends east and south into the cities of Orange, Santa Ana, and Garden Grove, is where a hub of commercial activity of regional significance starts south of the city's center.

The Disneyland Resort, with its two theme parks, several hotels, and retail area, is a part of the broader Anaheim Resort district, which also contains a huge number of other hotels and shopping centers. Angel Stadium is located in the Platinum Triangle, a neo-urban redevelopment area that will be home to high-rises and mixed-use streets. East of the Orange Freeway and more to the east is the industrial area known as Anaheim Canyon. The eastern part of the city is made up of Anaheim Hills, a planned development, and undeveloped area to the east of Route 241 Toll Road.

Anaheim, like many other South Coast cities, has a climate that is on the cusp of being hot and semi-arid (Köppen BSh) and just shy of being Mediterranean (Köppen Csa). This climate is marked by warm winters with sporadic heavy rainfalls and scorching, basically rainless summers. The highest and lowest temperatures ever recorded in Anaheim are 115 °F (46 °C) on July 6, 2018, and 30 °F (-1 °C) on February 15, 1990, and January 30, 2002, respectively.

Additionally, it generates $255 million in taxes annually. The Anaheim Convention Center, which hosts numerous significant national conferences, is another source of tourism. The resort area of the city is home to many hotels that cater to convention visitors and tourists visiting theme parks. The Anaheim-Santa Ana edge city, along with the South Coast Plaza-John Wayne Airport edge city and Irvine Spectrum, is one of the three largest such clusters in Orange County. It extends from the Disney area to the Santa Ana River in the east, south into the cities of Garden Grove, Orange, and Santa Ana, and north into the city of Garden Grove.

The Union Pacific Railroad and the BNSF Railway are the two principal railroads that service Anaheim. Additionally, Amtrak, Metrolink, and a number of bus companies are served by the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center (ARTIC), a significant regional transit hub close to the Honda Center and the Angel Stadium. The Anaheim Canyon Metrolink station is used by the Inland Empire-Orange County Line of Metrolink. The planned network of California High-Speed Rail includes ARTIC as a stop.

Bus service is provided for Anaheim by the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA), which also operates routes that serve the entire county. OCTA and Los Angeles County Metro both run routes that connect Anaheim to Los Angeles County, and the Riverside Transit Agency runs one route that serves both Riverside and San Bernardino. The Anaheim Resort area is serviced by the Anaheim Resort Transit (ART), which also offers local shuttle service to nearby hotels, tourist destinations, and the Disneyland Resort.
