DALLAS, Texas - The UTEP Miners volleyball team has once again proven their prowess on the court, as Ema Uskokovic and Kaya Weaver have been recognized as the Conference USA Volleyball Players of the Week. This accolade, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon, highlights their exceptional performances during a thrilling weekend of matches.
Spotlight on Ema Uskokovic: Offensive Player of the Week
Ema Uskokovic has made waves this season, earning her first Player of the Week title after a stellar performance. Here’s what made her stand out:
- Consistent Performance: Uskokovic started both matches against Sam Houston, showcasing her endurance and skill by playing in all six sets.
- Kills Galore: She recorded an impressive 24 kills, averaging 4.00 kills per set while maintaining a hitting percentage of .373.
- All-Around Impact: Uskokovic’s contributions didn't stop at kills; she also racked up five service aces, 12 digs, and eight total blocks. Her well-rounded gameplay helped lead the Miners to a 2-0 finish for the weekend.
- Point Machine: She led the team in total points, amassing 33.0 points over the weekend, averaging 5.5 points per set.
Kaya Weaver: Defensive Player of the Week
Kaya Weaver also shone brightly during the weekend matches, earning her third Player of the Week honor. Here’s how she made her mark:
- Dominance at the Net: Weaver's defensive skills were on full display as she recorded a remarkable 12 total blocks, including two solo blocks and 10 block assists, averaging 2.00 blocks per set.
- Offensive Contributions: In addition to her defensive prowess, she contributed 19 kills with a stellar hitting percentage of .500, averaging 3.17 kills per set.
- Scoring Power: Weaver's all-around performance earned her 26.0 points across the matches, averaging 4.33 points per set.
