🎶 A New Era of Music: Alabama Symphony Orchestra Takes the Stage at Historic Carver Theatre! 🎶

The Alabama Symphony Orchestra (ASO) is set to ignite the Birmingham music scene with an exciting new concert series at the iconic Carver Theatre. This venue, steeped in history, promises to be the perfect backdrop for a series of unforgettable performances. Here’s everything you need to know about this thrilling collaboration!

Introducing "Concerts at the Carver"

On Monday, the ASO unveiled its latest initiative, "Concerts at the Carver," designed to bring classical music to life within the walls of this nearly 90-year-old theatre. Tickets for the inaugural concerts have already gone on sale, and here's a sneak peek at what you can expect:

• Bach & Nabors, December 5, 2024: Experience the brilliance of Bach with the Brandenburg Concerto, featuring harpsichord, flute, and violin solos, alongside Respighi's Ancient Airs and Dances. Plus, don't miss the world premiere of a new composition by Alabama's own Brian Nabors!
• Favre and Ravel, January 16, 2025: This concert opens with Ravel’s hauntingly beautiful Pavane for a Dead Princess, followed by the deeply moving Requiem by Gabriel Fauré.
• Warlock, Davies, & Britten, March 6, 2025: The evening features Peter Warlock’s lively Capriol Suite, along with Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’ An Orkney Wedding, with Sunrise, concluding with Benjamin Britten’s evocative Four Sea Interludes from his opera Peter Grimes.

The Historic Carver Theatre

Located on 4th Avenue North, the Carver Theatre first opened its doors in 1935 as a movie house catering to Birmingham’s Black Business District. At a time when segregation was rampant, it stood out as one of the few venues showcasing first-run films for Black audiences during the Jim Crow era.

After closing in the early 1980s, the theatre was revitalized in 1990 when the City of Birmingham acquired it. Since then, it has been home to the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, hosting live jazz performances and preserving the cultural heritage of the community.

In 2019, a major renovation project transformed the Carver Theatre, culminating in its grand reopening in August 2024. With its rich history and newly restored charm, the venue is poised to become a cultural hub once again.
