– – A furniture business is recalling specific bookshelves after a young child passed away when one tipped over last year, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
On Thursday, Dania Furniture recalled 940 Hayden bookcases that were cost its shops online or nationwide after reports that they're unsteady if not anchored to the wall, positioning a risk to kids.
A 4-year-old was killed after one of the bookcases tipped over in August 2023, CPSC reports.
The bookcases, manufactured in Italy, were distributed by Dania Furniture. They were sold for about $370 between November 2017 and February 2024
According to the CPSC, the item "consists of 6 storage cubbies and is made from brown wood with three moving white doors."
If they're not anchored to the wall, officials alert consumers to stop using these bookshelves and keep them out of reach of children.
Dania Furniture says consumers can reach out to get a tip-over restraint package set up free of charge. If clients would rather have that, the business is also providing full refunds.
