Henderson Police Department honors officers, others during ceremony

Officers Patrick McCarrick and Emont Duncan got Officer of the Year honors at the Henderson Police Department's annual awards event last week.

The department applauded both receivers in a press release Monday.

McCarrick "dedicated himself to improving the department's digital platforms for improved radio interactions vital to public and officer safety," the release said. Duncan's work for the Police Athletic League "has actually helped grow the program and allowed for increased mentorship opportunities between Henderson police officers and youth within the community.".

The honors, given during a ceremony held Thursday at the Dragon Ridge Country Club, likewise included lifesaving, system citations, exemplary service, recognized service and other awards.

Recipients of the Lifesaving Award consisted of officers Ramon Martin del Campo and Austin Church, who were credited with saving a person's life who suggesting they planned to leap from a freeway overpass. Communications Operator Gina Bermejo got the award for assisting a caller carry out CPR on her daddy, who was not breathing.

The department offered awards to more than 80 officers, personnel and civilians for "exceeding and beyond the call of responsibility.".
