Homeless woman living in vehicle with six dogs arrested for animal abuse

(FOX40.COM) - - A homeless female who was living with 6 pet dogs in an SUV was arrested for apparently abusing one of them in a parking area.

On Nov. 27 at 6:21 a.m. Winters Police Department officers stated they got a call about a lady choking and beating a canine in the parking lot near Starbucks on Matsumoto Lane.

Upon arrival to the scene, an officer reported that the lady barricaded herself in a black SUV with many canines and threatened the officer with a weapon. The officer asked for backup and got assistance from the Yolo County Sheriff's Office.

Police determined the female as 25-year-old Anastasia Mischenko. They stated after over 30 minutes of negotiating with her, she left the automobile, however withstood being apprehended.

Mischenko was ultimately placed under arrest and booked at Yolo County Jail for misdemeanor animal cruelty and resisting/obstructing an officer. Officials state she will be evaluated by psychological health personnel at the jail.

Yolo County Animal Services Shelter took custody of 6 canines that remained in the vehicle. Animal services staff will supposedly evaluate and treat the canines for medical needs.
