As the waves crash along the shores of Virginia Beach, a familiar sound is set to fill the air on Saturday, September 14, 2024. Mark Bryan, the talented guitarist and founding member of the iconic band Hootie and the Blowfish, will take the stage with his bandmates, bringing back the nostalgia of their early days while showcasing his new solo work. This performance is not just another concert; it's a celebration of the journey that shaped a generation of music lovers.
In an era dominated by digital music and social media, it’s easy to forget that many bands once climbed the ladder of success one local gig at a time. Hootie and the Blowfish epitomized this journey. Bryan fondly recalls the days of driving up from South Carolina, performing at legendary venues like the Jewish Mother and Peppermint Beach Club in Virginia Beach.
As they prepare to return to the Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater, Bryan shares his excitement about the show. “Even in 2019, I think the first show of the tour was in Virginia Beach,” he reminisced. “It’s close to home for me, and I have friends in the area. Playing for military members and their families makes it even more special.”
In addition to the excitement surrounding the concert, Mark Bryan is also gearing up for the release of his new solo album, Popped, debuting on October 25, 2024. Bryan believes this album is his best work yet. “I feel like I’m just getting better as I go,” he said, expressing his eagerness to share his evolution as an artist.
While Bryan is focused on his solo endeavors, he remains hopeful for a future Hootie and the Blowfish album. “Nobody’s talking about working together creatively right now, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen,” he noted. He believes that as they age, the band members have more to offer, and their collective sound continues to evolve.
“I think a lot of people write off older bands, but we’re getting better with age,” Bryan said. He emphasizes that there’s something magical about the chemistry that develops between musicians who have shared experiences over the years. “I believe there’s still a great album waiting to be made,” he added, full of hope for what’s next.
As he prepares for the upcoming concert and the release of his new album, Bryan is committed to continuing his musical journey, whether it’s with Hootie or through his solo projects. “If we’re not going to do it with Hootie, I’m going to find ways to do it myself,” he asserted, showcasing his determination and passion for music.
As we look forward to the upcoming performance, one thing is clear: Mark Bryan and Hootie and the Blowfish are far from done. Their journey through music continues to inspire, and the best may still be yet to come.
