CARSON CITY - - North Las Vegas' City Council could get two brand-new seats under legislation that will heard by lawmakers Monday afternoon.
Senate Bill 184, sponsored by Sens. Pat Spearman, D-North Las Vegas, and Edgar Flores, D-Las Vegas, would increase the number of seats on North Las Vegas' City Council from four to 6. The expense would likewise require the council to draw brand-new district limits with roughly equivalent populations prior to completion of the year.
Elections for the brand-new wards will be held in 2024 if the costs is approved.
The expense would likewise require the city supervisor and individuals in other selected administrative positions to end up being residents of North Las Vegas within 6 months of being selected to the position, and would require those people to maintain house in the city throughout their period.
The proposed legislation would likewise mandate the city supervisor to prepare a diversity research study annually and would disallow the city lawyer from providing legal advice to the mayor or any member of the council on matters unrelated to their main tasks. The city manager would also be needed to send a report to legislative committees on vacant or leased space in the North Las Vegas City Hall.
The costs will be heard in the Senate Government Affairs Committee at 3:30 p.m. Monday.
