LONDON-- The U.K. Supreme Court has ruled that planners examining well-drilling licenses must consider the environmental effect from burning the oil that would be produced. The 3-2 ruling on Thursday in London was a triumph for fossil fuel opponents. Sarah Finch had actually challenged a choice by Surrey County Council to enable extra oil wells at Horse Hill near London Gatwick Airport. The court concurred with Finch that the council had actually not gone far enough in just considering the greenhouse gas emissions from drawing out the oil. Environmentalists cheered the triumph.
