Long before Hollywood became synonymous with blockbuster movies, a little-known silent film wrapped production in the Santa Clarita Valley over a century ago—changing the region's cinematic destiny forever.
On April 2, 1910, Ramona, the first documented film shot in Santa Clarita Valley, completed production. This early silent movie, based on Helen Hunt Jackson's bestselling novel, unknowingly set the stage for SCV's future as a filming hotspot.
Few realize the challenges faced during filming:
Today, Santa Clarita Valley hosts major studios like Disney and Netflix, but it all started with that single 1910 production. Over 500 films and TV shows have since utilized SCV's diverse landscapes, from westerns to sci-fi blockbusters.
