Six Flags Over Texas is making major changes this season—eliminating cash payments entirely and enforcing a strict chaperone policy for guests under 18. The new rules, announced this week, aim to modernize operations and improve guest safety, but they’re already sparking debate among regular parkgoers.
Gone are the days of fumbling with dollar bills at concession stands. The Arlington-based theme park is now a completely cashless operation, requiring visitors to use credit cards, debit cards, or mobile payment options like Apple Pay and Google Wallet. For those who arrive with only cash, the park has installed "reverse ATM" kiosks that convert cash into prepaid debit cards—but not without a potential service fee.
In what some see as a bold move, Six Flags is also rolling out a mandatory chaperone policy for guests under 18. Starting immediately, anyone younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult (21 or older) to enter the park after 4 p.m. on weekends and holidays. The policy is a response to increasing concerns over rowdy behavior and unsupervised teens causing disruptions.
While some parents applaud the changes, calling them a "necessary step for safety," others argue the policies unfairly target teenagers and inconvenience families who rely on cash. Social media has been buzzing with opinions, with some teens calling the rules "discriminatory" and planning protest visits.
