HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) - - The mastermind of a murder-for-hire plot handed two life sentences recently for her function in the crime plans to appeal, Horry County's leading prosecutor said on Monday.
Samantha Rabon was found guilty Feb. 28 managing the killings of her daddy and half-brother in 2018, offering Randy Grainger $20,000 to remove them so she could inherit money and land.
Grainger was offered double life sentences last year for his function in the criminal offense, but consented to affirm versus Rabon wishing for a more recent, lighter punishment.
Rabon's lawyers informed News13 soon after recently's verdict they would appeal the jury's decision.
" As quickly they go up there (to prison) and checked in good, they give the inmate a pencil and a notepad and they begin appealing," 15th Circuit Court Solictor Jimmy Richardson stated in his weekly community upgrade. "In reality, even before the week was out, the defense attorney had submitted a notification to appeal."
Grainger saw his successive double sentences modified to be served simultaneously. Neither Grainger nor Rabon are qualified for parole.
Richardson said district attorneys were confident about the result of Rabon's case given the quantity of evidence and Grainger's conviction.
"It was a truly great case for the state," Richardson stated.
