Hard to believe but we are on the eve of the final regular season football weekend for location high school groups. And, with that comes a couple must-win games if those teams wish to advance into the Sac-Joaquin Section Playoffs. The post-season gets underway Nov. 3. The 12 top-ranked teams in each division, as ranked by CalPreps.com, will certify. The leading 4 seeds in each department get a first-round bye. Assured of the post-season are local groups Monterey Trail, Cosumnes Oaks, Pleasant Grove in Division I;
Elk Grove, and likely, Laguna Creek in Division II and Bradshaw Christian in Division VI. (CalPreps rating in parenthesis).
Sheldon (-4.5) vs. Pleasant Grove (4.9 ).
This is a must-win for the Huskies. They come into the video game 3-6 and in order to make the playoffs groups need to win four video games. This may be too tall an order for Sheldon. The Eagles would love to complete the season 5-5 after a one-win year in 2022. Carter Tseu will connect on another couple basket to make the distinction. He's leading the Section with 10 field goals, his longest being a 47-yarder. He had three last week in the 16-10 win over Davis.
Prediction: Pleasant Grove 19, Sheldon 10.
Grant (28.2) vs. Laguna Creek (14.8 ).
The Cardinals would like to wrap up one of their most effective seasons in a while with a win over the Pacers. Grant is the top-ranked team in Division III and has plenty of weapons.
Laguna Creek could wrap up an 11-seed, perhaps a 10-seed, in Division II should they pull this one out. A win could be a huge boost going into the playoffs for Coach Ryan Nill and the kids.
Forecast: Grant 31, Laguna Creek 28.
Bradshaw Christian (11.6) vs. Rosemont (-5.6 ).
A win for the Pride (7-2) guarantees them of a bye in the very first week of the Division VI bracket. Rosemont (4-5) is currently ranked the seventh-best in Division V. Watch the Pride control this one from the start and grab the Sierra Valley Conference champion.
Prediction: Bradshaw 24, Rosemont 12.
Elk Grove (20.8) vs. Franklin (-12.9 ).
After last Saturday's frustrating loss at Jesuit,
Elk Grove could utilize a much better outing in Week 10 to get some momentum heading into the playoffs.
Forecast: Herd 35, Franklin 7.
Valley (-68.0) vs. Florin (-69.9 ).
Neither team has actually scored points this season and they lastly end the year with the possibility to play each other. Will someone win?
Forecast: Valley 12, Florin 6.
