In a significant development in a tragic case that shook the Santa Ana community, police have apprehended a key suspect involved in a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this year. Here’s a closer look at the events leading up to this arrest and the ongoing investigation.
On the evening of June 3, 2024, at approximately 6:42 p.m., Santa Ana Police were alerted to reports of gunfire in the vicinity of 1100 S. Poplar Street. Officers quickly arrived at the scene, accompanied by a team from the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA).
Upon arrival, responders found a 19-year-old male, later identified as Angel Junior Vuelvas, lying on the ground with severe gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention and transport to a local hospital, Vuelvas tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Following the shooting, the Santa Ana Police Homicide Detectives took charge of the investigation. Their efforts led to the identification of Cesar Gaspar, also 19 years old and hailing from Westminster, as a second suspect in the gang-related shooting.
