A violent shooting in South Los Angeles late Sunday night has left one person dead and four others injured, sparking renewed concerns over gun violence in the area. Authorities are still searching for suspects as the community grapples with the aftermath.
Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers arrived within minutes of the 911 calls but found the shooter(s) had already fled. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and speaking with witnesses to piece together the events leading up to the gunfire.
"This was a targeted attack, not a random act," said LAPD Captain Daniel Alvarez in a statement. "We urge anyone with information to come forward."
Local residents expressed frustration over the recurring violence in the neighborhood. Community leader Maria Juarez called for increased police patrols and youth intervention programs.
"Enough is enough. Our streets shouldn’t be war zones," Juarez told reporters.
This shooting marks the fourth major gun-related incident in South LA this month, raising questions about the effectiveness of current crime prevention strategies. Anti-violence advocates are pushing for stricter gun control measures and better mental health resources.
